St. Louis, MO - ELEVATE MUSIC SERIES is thrilled to announce a one-of-a-kind musical event featuring the spectacular big band Genesis Jazz Project and the unique brass ensemble the St. Louis Low Brass Collective on Thursday, May 16th in The Bullock at Live! by Loews Hotel-St. Louis. This remarkable night of music will showcase a unique blend of jazz, classical, and afrobeat compositions, illustrating the versatility and vibrancy of modern music in the heart of St. Louis. The night will feature selections from Lamar Harris' MOTHeR Suite created for Kirven Doubhit-Boyd's new dance work MOTHeR. The evening will also feature smooth jazz national artist Mark Harris performing original works with the Genesis Jazz Project with Phil Graves on piano. ELEVATE Music Series is a once-a-month series at Live by Loews Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, curated by trombonist/composer/producer Lamar Harris. Genesis Jazz Project is comprised of talented musicians in the St. Louis area and is under the direction of trumpeter/educator Chris Becker. GJP's mission is to preserve and promote jazz music, foster jazz education, and contribute to the communities in which we live. The St. Louis Low Brass Collective provides educational and performance opportunities for students, amateur low-brass (trombone, euphonium, baritone horn, and tuba), and musicians to present concerts focusing on low-brass musicians. Members of the St. Louis Symphony, college educators, and professional musicians are a part of the collective, performing the MOTHeR Suite that Lamar Harris will conduct. The evening will feature artists such as Antonio Foster, Carlos "Scooter" Brown Jr., Kwanae Johnson, and Duane "Jingo" Williams. Foster and Williams performed on the MOTHeR Suite project, which is available on all streaming platforms.
The evening will deliver original pieces that fuse the improvisational spirit of jazz with the grandeur of classical music combined with soulful amapiano/ afrobeat rhythms, pushing the boundaries of what live music can achieve. "The event at The Bullock is more than just a concert; it's a celebration of live music and collaboration," says Harris, the event coordinator. "I wanted to do something different and play some music with friends I admire and appreciate. “ We invite everyone to come out and support live music, enjoy innovative sounds, and be part of a musical journey that promises to be both nostalgic and good vibes.
Doors open at 5:00 pm, with the show starting at 5:30 pm. We recommend that you arrive early to secure a good spot. Admission is FREE. For more information, visit www.Thelamarharris.com or call 314-494-9214.

On September 8th at 5:00pm, FROM THE LAB will host a special kickoff event
“Ear Hustle”, A Conversation and Performance featuring Grammy-nominated vocalist Sy Smith and hosted be songstress Theresa Payne at the Kranzberg Art Center located in the Big Brothers Big Sisters building at 501 N. Grand. Admission is $10.00. Tickets available at the door or though Metrotix.com.
Sy Smith is a singer, songwriter and producer that helped cultivate the nu-soul scene which now easily boasts some of the most progressive artists of that genre to date, some of whom came directly from Smith’s own band line-ups (including Thundercat and Kamasi Washington). Her catalog includes five studio albums, with contributions from a who’s who of producers (James Poyser of The Roots, Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and Nicolay of The Foreign Exchange). She has provided supporting vocals for Whitney Houston, Sheila E., Meshell Ndegeocello, Chaka Khan, Usher, Macy Gray and The Rickey Minor Band (as seen on American Idol for six seasons and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno). Most recently though, she’s caught the ear of jazz aficionados as a featured guest with Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti.
No stranger to success, Theresa Payne has gained numerous achievements ranging from being named “Best R&B/Soul Artist” in a popular voter-based award contest for St. Louis’ music scene all the way to facing megastars Adam Levine, Usher, Shakira, and Blake Shelton on the stage of NBC’s The Voice for their sixth season. Her talent has also gained her opportunities to open for several of today’s most successful soul artists such as Jill Scott and Eric Roberson.
FROM THE LAB is a creative opportunity for area high school musicians, deejays, producers and songwriters to create and record original music. It is designed to give its participants the opportunity to study and explore the richness of their inner-potential through a three-step formula of EXPOSING, EXPERIENCING and EXECUTING. It is the intentions of this program to inform and educate participants about songwriting, recording, business, financial literacy and entrepreneurship in the arts through creative sessions, live studio recordings, performance and networking opportunities.
